Spontaneous Emergence at the WAXworks Showcase

Glade Dance Collective will be showing “Spontaneous Emergence,” co-choreographed by Shannon and Betsy Loikow at the Williamsburg Art neXus (WAX) Showcase in Brooklyn, NY. More information and tickets here

Spring 2017

Shannon will be choreographing a new piece for Movement Source Dance Company in Phoenix, AZ, to debut in April at the Tempe Center for the Arts. More info coming soon!

Shannon will be adjudicating for the Scottsdale Unified School District Dance Festival.

February 2017

Shannon will be adjudicating for the Maricopa County Community College’s Artist of Promise Concert.

Shannon will be guest teaching at the AzDEO High School Dance Festival in Phoenix.

March 2017

Shannon will be teaching workshops in contemporary dance improvisation and choreography at Revolution Dance Academy in Mesa, AZ.

Arizona Desert West Dance Festival – Shannon and Jonathan will be performing their duet “Synchronicity” – March 17 and 18th at Glendale Community College Performing Arts Center.

June 2017

Shannon will be teaching modern dance and an improvisation & composition workshop at Arizona Dance Artistry’s Pre-Professional Summer Program.

July 2017

Shannon will be teaching ballet, conditioning, modern dance, and variations at Arizona Dance Artistry‘s Summer Intensives.

2016 Events

January 2016 :: NACHMO! National Choreography Month/DC

Shannon is on the committee of organizers for NACHMO/DC 2016. This is a month-long challenge for dancers to create a new piece of choreography, working against a deadline and with the support of a national and local community of peers. DC events include open studios, networking events, workshops, and informal and formal showings.

February 28, 2016: NACHMO/DC Final Showcase at Intersections Festival

Shannon will debut a new work, co-created with Betsy Loikow of Glade Dance Collective during the month of January, featuring participants in NACHMO/DC.

4/9/2016 : New Street Dance Group will return to Old Parish House in College Park, MD for a day of dance hosted by College Park Arts Exchange!

Featuring New Street Dance Group, Glade Dance Collective, Kelsey Eustace and students from Ballet Academy

Workshop 2:00-4:30- Contemporary/Modern dance warm-up with Shannon Dooling, followed by an workshop with Glade Dance Collective. Learn improv games from Glade Dance Collective’s piece that explores rites of passage. Dancers will have the opportunity to perform the excerpt at the performance that night! Open to teens and adults with some dance experience.

Performance 7:00pm – Enjoy an evening of dynamic, engaging dance works by Shannon Dooling/New Street Dance Group, Glade Dance Collective, and Kelsey Eustace. Featuring a sneak peek of Glade Dance Collective’s Am I There Yet?, which will premiere as a part of the 2016 Capital Fringe Festival, a program of the Washington, DC non-profit Capital Fringe, and a performance by students from The Ballet Academy in Beltsville, MD.

4/25/2016 : Outreach performance at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital, Washington DC

Spontaneous Emergence, choreographed by Shannon Dooling and Betsy Loikow with the cast, will be presented as part of Glade Dance Collective’s outreach performance at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, DC.

Shannon will present a revised version of Not Alone, perform in a new duet by Catherine Fischer, and premiere 2 new works for students this showcase of students and faculty at New Chicago Dance Studio.

1/25/15 :: Guest Teaching

Shannon will be guest teaching a special “NACHMO” class for The Collective, a professional dance company in Baltimore. Open to all intermediate/advanced adult dancers. http://www.collective-dance.com/

In conjunction with National Choreography Month (NACHMO), this class will serve as your “choreographic kick in the pants” for the new year. Come dance with us! New Street Dance Group will be offering a day of workshops and a performance at the Old Parish House in College Park MD, hosted by College Park Arts Exchange.

Times: Contemporary Class 2:00-3:30; Choreography Workshop (with performance opportunity!) 4:00-6:00; Performance 7:00
Cost: $10 per workshop or $15 for both – cash or check at the door; Performance is Free!!

Shannon will be in residence at Totts Gap Art Institute in Bangor, PA, teaching, choreographing, and creating a new work for local dancers and students.

8/1/15: Philadelphia Women’s Theatre Festival

Shannon is collaborating with PWTF, Arden Kass (playwright), Brenna Geffers (director), and NSDG founding member Lauren Fanslau (actor) on WINGSPAN, as part of the inaugural Philly Women’s Theatre Festival at 1pm on August 1 at the Asian Arts Institute in Philadelphia.

8/17/15: FringeArts Scratch Nights Performance

New Street Dance Group, Co-Directed by Shannon, will be showing selections from Structurally Sound at the Scratch Night series of work-in-process at FringeArts in Philadelphia.

9/12/15: Structurally Sound Preview + Other Works

College Park Arts Exchange is hosting New Street Dance Group and special guests for a preview of Structurally Sound along with other dance works and live music! Shannon will be performing solo and group choreography. 7:00pm, free! (cash donations accepted!)

9/19/15: Structurally Sound at the Philly FringeArts Festival

Lithuanian Music Hall, 2715 E Allegheny Ave, Philadelphia PA 19134

New Street Dance Group NSDG and new music ensemble The Radical Sound bring you a performance experience that begs the question, “Just what are we made of -and how stable is it, anyway?” Featuring choreography by Krista Armbruster and Shannon Dooling, re-imaginings of historic music, and a world premiere commission by composer Tomek Regulski.

10/7/15-10/10/15: National Dance Education Organization National Conference

Shannon will be a presenter at several sessions at the NDEO Conference in Phoenix, AZ. Presentations include:

Bringing Ballet Choreographic and Composer Traditions to Life with Jane Bonbright, Helene Scheff, and Suzanne Knosp

This workshop presents original variations from traditional ballets and instructions on how to adapt the original choreography to all students on several levels. The ballets include Little Swans from Swan Lake, Écouté from Les Sylphides and Bolero from original movement from Radio City Music Hall. Participants will analyze traditions, music, and origins. They can either move or observe. Live music will be an added bonus.

DELRdi in Action with Jane Bonbright, Rima Faber, and Anne Dunkin

How does NDEO’s Dance Education Literature and Research descriptive index (DELRdi) support and validate dance education practice that engages the artistic processes of creating, performing, responding, and connecting? This panel explores this question. It considers issues involved in documenting and archiving dance education literature and practice to: create a research culture for yourself and students, perform and respond to dance education research, and connect with national and international arts education issues and colleagues.
